In August of 2004 on the campus of Millikin University in Decatur, IL members of Southwest Sprinters Track Club (SWS) first came together to compete at the USATF Masters Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Since that date, SWS has established itself as an elite track and field club committed to the goal of stimulating interest in fitness and promoting wellness for individuals ages 18 years and over. We are a nationally recognized club that is affiliated with the USA Track and Field (USATF) Organization. We encourage anyone with similar interests and desires to become a member of the club.
Membership requires no special qualifications, other than an interest in running and fitness. Members can choose their own level of involvement: participant, volunteer or sponsor. Everyone, from the serious competitor to the casual walker, is welcome. Members that choose to compete are presented with the opportunities to travel to various meets throughout the US and the world.
Highlighted below are several recent team accomplishments:
- Women's Team finished 5th out of 25 top clubs in the US at the 2011 USATF Club National Championships
- 2011 W30 4 x 200m Relay National Champions
- 2011 M40 4 x 200m and 4 x 400m relays Indoor National Champions
- M40 Team currently holds the Indoor World Record for the 4 x 400m relay
- 2009 and 2010 USATF Southern Regional Champions - Women and Men Teams
- 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011 Penn Relays M40 National Champions - 4 x 400 meter relay
- 2008 , 2009, and 2011 Millrose Games M40 Champions
- 2007 and 2008 National Masters Outdoor M30-39 Champions - 4 x 100 meter relay
- 2006, 2007,and 2008 National Masters Outdoor M30-39 Champions - 4 x 400 meter relay
- 2010 and 2011 National Masters M40 Champions - 4 x 400m relay
- Several members finished in the top 5 at the 2009 World Masters Athletics Championships
- Over 10 members ranked in the 2009 USATF’s top 10 National Masters Rankings
- Several members competed at the 2009 USATF Nationals/Trials in Eugene, OR
